Materials growth and characterization. Ultrahigh vacuum systems. Techniques for the growth of ultrathin, thin and multilayered films. Mechanical Alloying. Growth of metallic alloys by arc melting. Surface analysis techniques (LEED, MEED, AES). Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM). Structural characterization and modelling by x-ray diffraction (XRD). Static and quasistatic magnetic and magneto-optic (MOKE) measurements and modelling of the results. ×-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD).
